Good Time Island

Last night's Throats reunion turned out to be a pretty good time. I think I drank my weight in beer; just like old times.

Some pics are here. Let's gooooooooooooooooooo!

FY07 Par-tay

Today is the end of the fiscal year, which apparently means we get to drink at 10 AM. The dean of my department just walked in with champagne and orange juice, and we're fittin' to make mimosas. It's been a rough week 'round these parts, so this is overdue.

I'm also jazzed about tonight, as a mini WVU reunion is taking place. A few friends are visiting from out of town, along with the West Virginia throats who live in ye big apple, so we're hittin' up the beer garden for beer and laughs. Should be an awesome time- we haven't all been together in years.

OK, the suspense is killing me

I know only a handful of people read this, and really, only a handful of people care what I have to say. So, I must know- who is my reader in Hartford, Kansas?

I know who the rest of you are. :)

Little Debbie

On Saturday night, I went to the final NYPhil concert of the season, where I heard Ms. Voigt sing some Strauss songs, and I heard the orchestra play Mahler 7. Now, if you know me, you know how much I love Mahler. In December, I saw Chicago Symphony play Mahler 7 at Carnegie Hall (one of the top 3 best concerts I've ever been to), so the NYPhil had some big shoes to fill. They sounded amazing, especially in the last movement where it's balls to the wall brass and percussion- it gives me chills. Such amazing writing.

Deb was pretty awesome too. I wasn't as impressed with the beauty of her voice, although it is obviously very beautiful, as I was with the sheer power and size of it. Good God that woman can wail. A Mahler/Strauss orchestra is as big as they come, and to carry over a 130 piece orchestra, and be heard with NO trouble, is amazing. Even in her lower range, I heard every note. Pretty impressive. Plus, she looks good too. Just think of all the work she had to do to regain that support and muscle after her gastric bypass. Singers are cool.

The rest of my weekend included birthday parties, strong Belgian beers, a housewarming party, and watching this show. Wowza.

What's changed?

Today my parents celebrate their 37th wedding anniversary. 37. 37 years with the same person, day in and day out. 37 years of ups and downs, 3 kids, 1 grandkid, a dog, several cats, a guinea pig, some fish, a chameleon, and I think a hampster.

My parents met on a blind date. (In today's world: internet dating.) They were both teachers in the same school district, and the principal at my mother's school told her that she might want to get to know my father, who held season tickets to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. According to my mom, the only reason she agreed to go out with my dad is because she hadn't seen the BSO perform. 6 months or so later, they got engaged, and on June 20, 1970, they were married. My mom was 23, and my dad, 25.

I am 27. I am single. The longest relationship I have had lasted 1 year. I haven't had a boyfriend in 3 years. Talk about the apple falling pretty far from the tree.

I look at my parents' relationship, and still hope that when I do get married, I can celebrate my 37th wedding anniversary. They drive each other crazy from time to time (or most of the time), but they've stuck it out. And quite honestly, I can't imagine either of them being happy with anyone else.

Pewpiez.

I'm a lame blogger. Forgive my lameness, but I've had some rather pressing matters to deal with, so, yeah.

That being said, the rest of my vacation in Vegas was hella fun. I did this, and this, and felt like this. I'm terrible at slots!

You should also check out my friend RJ's site, Give-me-a-buck; it's a great idea, and his videos are hilarious.

G'day mate inDEED

I'm an old woman. How is it that I can go from 7 AM- 10PM on (sometimes) a daily basis in New York, and not even blink, but I've been struggling with the stupid 3 hour time difference ever since my plane landed. By the time I'm completely adjusted, it will be time to go back to New York.

Anyway, last night Ashley and I saw the Thunder from Down Under show, and I must say, it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Entertaining? Totally. We got free tickets, as it is a bit pricey, but I'd pay money to see that again. This dude was my favorite, and easliy the hottest man I've ever seen in real life. Apparently, his favorite place to hang out in Vegas is Home Depot. If by Home Depot, he means the gay bar, then fine. Whatever. The point is, he's ridiculous, and I got to touch him.

The highlight of the show was when this dude pulled me on stage for a lap dance. I was bright red the whole time, my sister was laughing hysterically in the audience, AND my dress *Ahem* "malfunctioned" as he was doing pelvic thrusts into my chest. Par for the classy course.

More later.

I'll be here all week.

Ashley: i think you'll like the Harry Potter bar
me: oh we're going there? is snape there?
Ashley: i hope so. there's a couple goth people that look like snape. hahah
me: awesome!
what is the bar called?
Ashley: the griffin
me: hahhaah
is the entrance called The Griffen Door?
HEYOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Ashley: what's that?
me: what??
Gryffindor!!
in HP?
Ashley: HAHAHHA
i'm such an idiot

I'd love to save a horse

I'm headed to Vegas tomorrow to visit my sister and gamble away my life savings. Sike. I don't have any life savings. Actually, I don't have any savings at all. Awesome.

Anyway, Ashley called me the other night to tell me that she scored us some tickets to this, which will be hilarious. I'm hoping we get to sit in the front row, so I can lick one of the dancers. Do they allow that? They must- it's Vegas! (P.S.- Dancers: pierced nipples? Really? That is SO 1997.)

How about this weather?

It's lovely outside. And by lovely, I mean not 85 degrees and humid. So, even though it's raining cats and dogs, I'll take it.

My employers were nice enough to close the office today, after a very busy and tiring Reunion weekend. I worked Friday night until 1:30 AM or so, Saturday 9 AM-8 PM, and on the seventh day, rested. I guess it's more like the 3rd day, or the 4th day if you count working Thursday night as well. Anyway, the point is Reunion is now over, and as soon as the fiscal year ends, it will be snooze city all summer long. I've decided to work the "summer hours" this year; I think that includes working from 8:30-6:15 Monday-Thursday, but having Fridays off. Not bad.

Here are some new pictures of Maxwell.

Rock

I saw Black Rebel Motorcycle Club last night. They totally rocked. I felt like I wanted to be wearing leather pants and biker boots and hanging over the railing with a beer in hand. But, since I have to work until 10 tonight, and all day and night tomorrow, I didn't have a beer in my hand and decided that hanging over the railing might be dangerous.

It's reunion time at Columbia, and as I helped pack up some boxes last night, I remember that this year marks my 5 year reunion at WVU. Dang. Where does the time go? I was chatting with my old friend Danno yesterday, and he said "you realize we've known each other for 9 years." "Have we? Wow. I guess it has been that long." Eek. Luckily, thanks to the interwebs, I can talk to my closest friends from college pretty much every day. And even though we're 9 years older than when we first met, our friendships haven't aged a bit.
